Replicating shape from SU to LO

I’m pretty sure there is a simple way to do what I want but I haven’t found out how.

Say you have a complex 2D shape that you have drawn in SU and you want to use it as a native shape in LO. Easy enough to get it into LO as a viewport and easy enough to explode (if that’s the right thing to do). But that does not make it an editable shape in LO in the same way as something drawn in LO itself. It makes it more like an image that is not editable inside LO.

Of course, you could draw it in LO in the first place or you could trace it but for complex shapes, LO isn’t easy to use.

Is there a way to do what I want?

If you leave it rendered as Raster it explodes to a raster image. If you first render it as Vector it explodes to a group containing LO drawing entities. You can edit the group or ungroup.

Perfect. Thought there must be a way.

This only works if the item is a solid in lieu of say a donut shape. In this case you need to render as vector and explode to retrieve just the solid background element. This object can be styled, scaled and inferenced but it can’t be edited!
