Reordering pages in layout

I came across a post from 2021 that Layout won’t let you reorder pages except in list view.

This still seems to be an issue in 2023.

Has this been corrected in 2024?

Im always in list view…didnt even remember that thumbnail view was available.

Why is thumbnail view useful?

Hi, Keith

I use thumbnail so I can see and know what is on the sheet.

In list, I have to count the pages in thumbnail for the sheet I want to move and the sheet I want to move it to be before.

Picture vs 1000 words thing.

Bob

I just checked this for you, and no, you cannot reorder Layout pages in Thumbnail view in version 2024.

Just like Keith, I never use thumbnail view. I find that clearly naming each sheet allows me to select whichever one I need to edit or move using the list view.

Best of luck :+1:

I don’t think @Barry will be able to say much about the issue, but he could at least remind the team that this is still an issue. I tried in a recent internal build, and in thumbnail view you can do the dragging and dropping actions, exactly as if it’s going to work, but it doesn’t move the page.

It’s only a Mac issue, because I think that on Windows you never could organize the pages that way. If Mac was changed to fall in line with Windows, then really all of the visual clues that imply it’s going to work should also be removed.

So, the answer is to opt for less, not more functionality.

Got it.

Apparently the solution is that there is no solution.

The workaround is to just use list mode. It’s a 4 year old bug (Colin, it’s LO-13520) that’s never bubbled up because there’s a workaround. I can add this thread to the ticket and see if anything changes.

Could we pause on the AI implementations for just a bit to correct the number of “bugs” that are out there that, while not devastating, are the source of major annoyance?

According to the keynote you’ll be able to ask your AI assistant to re-order the pages for you …

I better control my excitement… heheh
