I’d like to share a new free SketchUp extension:
FGId Local SKP Search
Over the years, many of us accumulate hundreds or thousands of .skp files: furniture, doors, windows, vegetation, vehicles, complete houses, previous projects, etc.
The idea behind this plugin is simple: make those existing local SKP collections easy to browse, search and reuse directly from SketchUp.
Your files stay in their existing folders. The plugin indexes them and provides a visual browser with thumbnails.
Search your SKP files
Instead of browsing folders manually, type a few words and immediately filter your local collection.
Browse by category
You can also browse visually without searching. Categories are based on the organization of your library.
Browse previous projects
A library can also contain complete SketchUp projects: houses, villas, apartment buildings, etc.
This makes it easy to visually find an old project instead of searching through project folders.
Multiple libraries
You can create and switch between different libraries — for example:
Interior Design · Exterior & Landscape · Projects · Client Library · Shared
Insert directly into SketchUp
Once you find the model you need, it can be inserted directly into the current SketchUp model.
Search → Preview → Select → Insert
The plugin is intended to complement online libraries rather than replace them: online libraries are great for finding new models, while FGId Local SKP Search is designed to help you find the models you already have.
