This week, @TheOnlyAaron puts on his elbow patched tweed jacket and grabs some books to model the Phillips Exeter Academy Library. The architecture of this place is unique, and so will be a unique test of Aaron’s modeling skills!
Great choice. I think Kahn has lately been too forgotten. I listened to some architects about 10-15 years younger than me talk sneeringly about their once professor who was an enthusiastic Kahn fan.
great choice Aaron!
Certainly one of my favorites. Although I started architecture school 5 years after Kahn’s death, going to Penn still gave me a heavy dose of Kahn influence. To really know more about Kahn, everyone should see the film My Architect ,which I already posted about here.
I made a pilgrimage to Exeter while in architecture school, but haven’t digitized those slides (I have a LOT of slides). One of my classmates went to school at Exeter, and told us the story of a prank where students tossed a dummy off a balcony, and two more students, lying in wait, ran out, picked up the dummy, put it on a stretcher, and ran out the building with it. Probably too much security to do that today.
