Out of plane

The highlighted sections are the only parts that are drawn on axis. Everything else in black needs to be redrawn, from what I can tell, since most of the house appears to be off axis and/or plane.

Oh, thanks for confirming that. It might be easier then, and quicker, to simply alter the original drawing from whence the in axis bits came!

However, I can’t remember exactly what I did and, on reflection, I think I might have just saved a copy of the previous drawing, and then worked on the copy, so the previous “donor” drawing may be the “corrupt” one which is out of plane. This now seems more likely, given what you’ve now told me.

Might be better to try altering an even earlier drawing with which I don’t recall having any problems. I’ve attached a copy. Would you mind checking it out for me, please?

Sorry, but this drawing is mostly off-axis too. Here’s a plan view in parallel projection, rotated 90° left to fit better in the post:

Here’s how it shows up relative to an off-axis plane drawn from the highest leftmost point to bottom right, then extended upwards to the roof peak. You can see that there are still a lot of elements not in this plane, either. Even the visible bits are actually in front of the face, not on it, by around 0.025m in the case I checked.

The whole drawing appears to be entirely ‘loose geometry’. At least it is all correctly on Layer0.

It shouldn’t take an awful lot of time to redraw the elevation from scratch, using the given dimensions.
I’d be inclined to start over.

As DaveR suggested earlier, in post 16, draw yourself a rectangle ON axis, then make it a component to avoid getting the geometry tangled up with what you redraw. As you redraw, make sure you are either drawing a rectangle ‘on axis’, by tapping the right arrow key to draw normal to the red axis, or if you have to draw a line, make sure you get an ‘on face’ inference at each end (the little blue square and tooltip).

And MAKE COMPONENTS of the separate pieces you draw, as you draw them. Give them meaningful names, too. The shortcut g calls up the Make Component dialogue. Use it.

Sorry, but as the Irishman said when asked “What’s the best way to Ballysloughguttery?” he replied “If I were you, I wouldn’t start from here.”

It’s more trouble to try and fix it than to redraw from scratch, in my opinion.

Hi John

Yes, I did start again, with a rectangle as you suggested and all is going well so far, although I had nearly finished by the time I saw your e-mail so haven’t utilised any of the other tips you gave. Nevertheless, so far everything is fitting together as it should.

I still need to finalise the drawing, though, so I’ll try everything you suggested just to make sure everything continues to go well.
