Hi,
Where do I set the categories in which I want my extensions (that were on EW1) to appear ? I don’t see any checkbox(es) to do so in the Edit extension menu…
When Devs are notified (in any manner) of anything pre-release they are restricted under certain legal non-disclosure clauses of the Trimble Developer Agreement. So this means that they cannot tell you if they have or have not been told anything at anytime (pre or post release) that is protected or restricted by the contract.
Such agreements also usually begin with a clause that the agreement is solely between the company and the person agreeing to the terms. (This means that you or anyone else is not a party to that agreement and cannot interfere with such a contract.)
These legal agreements are normal in the software industry for contractual agreements for developers, testers, insiders, poll and survey takers, etc. This also then means that it is impolite to publicly ask such questions that would cause signatories of agreements to violate the terms.
Yeaa. I’d want to describe what is good about the new EW, but didn’t know how.
Back to the topic: For me the new EW is definitely bad.
I’m refering to the blog post mentioned by Dan above:
I don’t see any awesome enhancements at all.
If this a little holiday gift, than tanks, but NO, Thanks.
Find those extensions…easier! No, I can’t.
Improved Landing Page. Oh yes, if you call the big blue portion of the screen is improvement, then it is improvement. But not for me.
Improved Performance: Can you please prove it?
Better Search Filtering and Sorting This is just not true…as I reported it in other forum tread.
Consolidated Industries and Categories The categories are as bad as was before.
Developers, rejoice! Oh, I see ,they are more confused than me. But don’t worry they can’t complain, at least not in public forum!
I know, I look a little nervous, but I don’t understand why the trend these days is that they are coming out with half-finished software and trying to convince users that everything is very good and even better.
I will still try to be more constructive with my posts, but I had to tell you this.
I answered to @eneroth3 post but , for sure it is not addressed to she…
On the question of performance, previously you would go to your profile menu and choose My Extensions, and patiently wait to see the list. When you then install something from the list, it would be another 30 seconds before you could install the next one. Now it’s more like 2 seconds.
I notice my old extensions have come back now. That list didn’t seem to migrate to the new warehouse, but it has now.
There are a lot of admin improvements, that most people won’t see. That should help to speed up reviewing and approving of submitted extensions. Also, sometimes we have to fix entitlement issues, and that has been made a lot easier.
I’ve said this before, but the biggest improvement is a fresh good code base. Whenever a bug was fixed in the old EW, a new bug appeared at a seemingly random other location. It just wasn’t stable. Unfortunately this improvement isn’t immediately visible to most end users, but hopefully we’ll see new features and improvements notably more frequently in the future.
I can’t test the EW1 now, but probably you right about the speed. But there are no “My Extensions” just “My Downloads” which has been empty after migration and I did not see anything is coming back.
I appreciate the work that may be behind it. Really.
But for sure in my point of view the EW2 looks like 2 step backwards. And all of the official “news” try to convince me about the opposite… Why can’t they tell the truth?
My Extensions is now My Downloads. Developers also do have a My Extensions entry, but it now refers to the extensions that they have developed, not the ones they previously downloaded. That could be slightly confusing for developers, but everyone else will only see My Downloads, and all being well will think to try there when looking for the extensions they have downloaded in the past.
I don’t know when the extensions got migrated, it could be recent. It would be worth signing out and back in again. Also make sure you’re signed in with the account that you have used before.
This was confusing in EW1 but makes total sense in EW2. If i want to go to my extensions, I click My Extensions. If I want to go to the extensions I’ve downloaded, I go to My Downloads. In the old EW I wrongly clicked My Extensions so many times wanting to see my extensions.
Could it be that you just have re-downloaded them all on one computer or another? My downloads list has also grown a bit since launch but the dates appear to all be after launch.
Licensed extensions (e.g. trials) or free ones too? I have a few licensed ones that goes back a few years too, but licenses were successfully migrated to my knowledge.
