Hey thanks for reading. I am a home designer that works for a home builder for the last 11+ years. I’ve been using SketchUp to draw over 200 homes over the last 8 years. I say home designer because I’m coming up with the layouts and exteriors with collaboration from the client. I do all of the drafting of the plans and modeling with SketchUp and construction documents through Layout. I’ve put some screen shots of my plans below. I have never drawn the same house twice and I’ve been quite fortunate to work on some really cool projects and wanted to share one that I’m especially proud of.
This home resides on Lake Michigan featuring about 400’ of lake view. I basically had carte blanch to come up with a modern design that features Lake Michigan from almost every room in the house.

Fun Note: the backdrop is from my phone, I took a panoramic shot and put the view in the background. This ensures when I show them the interior rendering of the home, they can see what they would see from this exact spot. Really powerful for client buy-in.

Main Floor Plan: I work closely with the framer to give him the dimensions he cares about. I might have 3-6 floor plans evolving as the custom build takes shape. It’s hard to manage but a lot of different subs don’t care about some information and I don’t want it to get lost on the plans they need.
Foundation plan: I cater this to the foundation supplier specifically. I color code my walls of their various heights to ensure everyone is on the same page. You get one shot at the foundation:
