Modelling area workspace in 2023 is only 25% of the total areA

On Windows, you may be able to adjust the size of text elements independent of display scaling.

Got to:
Windows (Start) > Settings > Ease of Access (Accessibility on later versions)

There are 2 controls:

Make text bigger (this is independent of scaling)

and Make everything bigger (this is just a mirrored scaling control from the Display panel.)

These apply to the “main” display.

  • The link beneath the second control just goes back to the Display settings panel so you can change scaling on other displays.

I just tried making the text 150% size.

It does make the SketchUp menus and toolbar tooltips larger. But all the dialog controls and inspector panels have hard-coded text sizes that do not change with this feature.

However, it does make things like Windows OS stuff like: File Explorer, Settings app, 7Zip, LibreOffice apps, etc., easier to use on my 15" FHD display.

Hello,
so ? what’s up ? Still no news about the issue ?

Nope - still using an old version even though I paid for a new version. I have checked every update and still at 25% of screen coverage.

Thanks

I had exactly the same problem.

Unfortunately, I didn’t see your post because my choice of search keywords were not helpful to point me to your thread, so I ended up creating a new post at:

What I discovered was that this problem only presented itself, on my Windows 10 machine specifically, if my “main” or primary monitor (whether it was a single monitor or part of a multiple monitor setup) was set to have a display scaling higher than 100%. Edit: Just realised @geocraw4d and @Chabup also mentioned only 100% scaling works.

So, if my main monitor display scaling was set at 125% or higher, it would produce the same problem as yours. And the higher the scaling percentage, the worse the effect (i.e. the smaller the visible workspace).

You may note also that, when the problem presents itself, your cursor likely won’t be able to properly select or perform anything at the coordinates your cursor happens to be positioned at. See more information in my post if you’re interested.

Workaround (though not a proper solution): set your “main” monitor – ideally your largest monitor –display scaling to 100% when using Sketchup 2023. If you have other monitors, set them at whatever display scaling you wish (for me, this had no ill effect). If your only or largest monitor is 28" or less, and you can’t deal with squinting, then you’ll have to revert to 2022 until they fix this problem.

Thanks to @ateliernab for pointing me to your post and @DaveR for pointing me in the right direction (by mentioning display scaling) to do further testing and find the workaround.

Note: this problem didn’t happen on my Windows 11 machine. It only happened on my Windows 10 machine. Bear in mind, I don’t know whether your problem, although identical to mine, was caused by the same underlying factor (i.e. either the OS version, or a particular machine configuration). This remains to be seen/tested by the Sketchup programmers.
