Minimum distance between faces to avoid visual overlap

I have a plugin that may create many painted faces that may ‘overlap’. To avoid the visual distortions between coplanar overlapping faces (I assume that this is what’s meant with z-fighting?), I order these faces in a ‘layered stack’ with some space between the consecutive layers.

I wonder what would be the minimum distance between these overlapping faces to avoid the annoying visual effect? And what are the parameters that may have an impact on this minimum distance (hardware, face orientation, camera position, Sketchup version, anything else….)?

It would depend on how far the “camera” is from the faces. The greater the camera to model distance, the greater the required distance between the faces.

It’s possible that some graphics cards/drivers will handle it better than others but it will happen. Might be a little different with the new graphics card although in your case that’s moot since the graphics engine isn’t available in SketchUp 2017 Make.

FWIW, “coplanar” means the faces are in the same plane.

The bleed-through is more prevalent with edges close behind faces.
