Materials changing when I import a model into another file

Guess what I am having a similar problem to this again and this is the only thread I am seeing again…

I am using a standard material and just changing the color and when I paste it into the main file it changes colors… I have tried importing and copy pasting and saving the file as a new file,

You might try renaming your modified material before importing the file. When you import, materials that already exist in your model aren’t replaced with the ones in the file you import.

It’s the textures on the garage doors and the roof I assume?

I copied your model to a new file and it looks the same to me.

@Anssi’s suggestion is a good one if those materials are already used in the destination file.

I have figured out if i match it to the right color on the other parts of the model it stays that way… sigh apparently over thinking the work around.

Thanks all.

Yes if I copied it alone but somehow the interaction with the main house was causing it to change colors… but re-matching the material once it moved to the main file has let it stay that way even after reloading it.

I found that out after sending it to you. Thanks for your time again!

Hmmm… I’m not sure I understand what happened but as long as you’re moving forward it’s good.

Hi,

I’ve been having this issue for a while now and couldn’t get around it with anything I tried. When dragging in products of the same make with different materials, they would adopt some of the materials of the piece already in the model.

This was handy when I wanted to dye all cushions the same colour in one go for example, but frustrating when I didn’t want to edit other pieces and they would be morphed too.

I think because some may have shared the same component names they may have been picked up as sister pieces. The way I got around this was to either edit the component names or ungroup the entire piece I want to copy in and then regroup it once in my model.

I hope this helps anyone else with the same issue.
