Mac Colors window GUI annoyance

Definitely classify this as a GUI annoyance versus a bug. Everything works, but it is obnoxious.

When you edit a material color in the Mac Colors window, SU extends the height of the Colors window to show all the editing controls. This is fine and has to happen. However, when you the Close the editing window, the Color window sticks at the very tall size and location it zoomed to while editing the material color, but now with blank space where the editing controls used to be. The Color window should really return to its original size and position before editing.

I know I find this GUI behavior to be, well, less than ideal. I know Aaron also gets caught out by this behavior in his Live Model sessions.

Here’s a screen shot of my starting Color window size and position:

Here’s a screenshot of the Colors window while editing a color. Note both the position and size changes:

As I said before, this isn’t really a “bug”. But it is definitely a GUI annoyance.

Like most of the issues with the materials editor on the Mac, this results from the way it was built by layering it atop the macOS color picker. Since the devs have a conversion to the Qt GUI library in progress, it is not likely to be fixed.

Just wanted to document the odd behavior using screen shots with the hope for a fix in a future release. It’s not at all fatal and can be worked around at this point.

Yeah after the alpha version that some of us tested, it’s been over two years, probably for 2030 the new GUI will be ready, when they stop focusing mainly on AI features because the AI bible is close to exploding.
