Need to update my 2017 intel Macbook pro.
Use sketchup regularly for Set Design / film industry. Occasionally render in VRay. Don’t really use other plug ins.
Considering a refurbished Macbook M3 Pro (36 Gb ram) instead of M4 Pro (48 GB) (saves $1,000).
Have the M3 Pro kinks been worked out? Am I much better to go with the M4?
@colin ? Thoughts? Leaning M3 Pro for $ reasons… just have seen more complaints posted re M3 chip.
M3 issues seem to be ironed out for the most part. It’s been a while since I’ve heard of real problems on the M3. There have been problems reported on the latest OS Sequoia, which SketchUp is not officially supporting yet. It might be best to stay in a later OS like Sonoma for now, until a supported version of SketchUp is released. Which would be impossible to do if you buy a “new” M4 as it likely ships with Sequoia and macs cant be downgraded below their factory OS. In general the M3 is a great machine, you will see a big improvement over your previous machine, and it’s likely worth the 1k savings. I run an M1 Max with 32gb RAM on Montery with big models for scenic design and rendering in twinmotion and get along just fine.
