New Macbook Pro

Hi everyone

My current Macbook Pro is about to die and I would love some advice on what model I should get to replace it! I’ve found a few options in my price range.. what one does everyone think I should go for?

Option 1: M3 48 GB, 40 GPU, £3300 refurbished
Option 2: M4 48 GB, 20 GPU, £2560, new
Option 3: M4 36 GB, 32 GPU, £3200, new

The first one seems like the best option but is 40 CPU worth it if the RAM is only 48 GB?

I’m a landscape designer and my models have lots of heavy 3D plants and trees. I just had a look at some of my files and they are typically around 400MB.

Many thanks all!
Jo

I could be wrong, but my guess would be you would be hard pressed to feel much difference in performance on day to day work in SketchUp, so maybe #2 for a little savings? New would have a better warrantee than refurbished, so I see no advantage in #1 over #3. Is rendering like V-Ray an issue?

I’m using Macbook M4 Pro 16 GB RAM version. RAM has been enough for rendering.
My main considiration, for choosing the Pro version is that it had dual fans - for better cooling.

If you use vray or enscape you can reduce the file size by converting the plants or trees with a lot of geometry into proxys, it will also take less time to render, vray cosmos library has already a lot of great vegetation that are already proxys, on your model you’ll see just an abstract form of the object without any textures but on the renderin viewport you can see all the details of it.

My models never get that big, even with big projects (10000m2), I have an M1 Max MacBook Pro with 64 gb of memory and I’ve never used more than 30, with vray or enscape.
