2000 ?

different tech / applications ? it’s a bit above vray. I got architect friends who tried both and chose to remain with lumion, better integration in their workflow, and they like the output better…

why would people spend 350 on sketchup when there is a free blender…

Sketchup and blender do different things, you can’t do physics simulations, rigging and complex animations on sketchup and you can’t do construction documentation with blender, modeling on blender and on sketchup is completely different, while Lumion, D5, Twinmotion and Enscape are real time rendering softwares with similar workflow.

They have adjusted their prices, last year the studio version was like €1700, that’s ~$1900, it still makes no sense to me when D5 and Twinmotion have the same workflow, or Enscape that runs inside sketchup.

V-Ray has used accurate ray tracing rendering for decades, and it’s not a real time rendering, Lumion was the last to implement Ray Tracing out of the 3 most used real time rendering softwares, Twinmotion even has Path Tracer, a more accurate way to calculate light bounces with better output than Lumion.

My question is real, what does Lumion can offer me that D5 or twinmotion can’t? Why would I spend €1000 on a asset limited version instead of $300 on D5 with a huge asset library or $0 on Twinmotion with assets from sketchfab and Quixel megascans.

I’ve tried all three softwares the workflow is basically the same, all of them have plug-ins for different modeling softwares and all of them have can synchronize with the modeling softwares and reflect all the changes made on them. D5 and twinmotion deliver better renders than Lumion, Twinmotion’s path tracer delivers the best results out of the 3, without path tracer it still is better than Lumion and a bit behind D5.

Defending Lumion is very hard these days, they could put those prices 10 or 15 years ago, when they were the only real time rendering software, but now they’re competing against Unreal and a Chinese huge corporation.
