The stars are like mountains in the distance which symbolize all that humanity has never accomplished. I think it’s important to think about how architectural design has infinite room to improve, despite how good it is already. Feel free to think outside the box and ponder the possibility of perceived impossibilities.

P.S. I’m really appreciating all the input. You all have been a great help. I really like compressed earth walls… Unfortunately, uninsulated compressed earth walls have a really low R-value, but what if an additive mixed into the soil could increase it’s insulation properties? Also, it’d be cool to polish the compressed earth walls into shiny smooth surfaces.

Also, there’s Roman concrete.

masonry can be replaced with peat moss and mud.

Papercrete, Very interesting

Ok, papercrete I hadn’t heard of before. Interesting.

Hi Forestr, I’m looking for exactly the same as you are.
I’m thinking of CLT or SIP (mainly CLT which would allow for this Unibody idea).

What do you think about?

I like the idea. If the cross laminated timber wall was 10.4" thick, then it’d have r-13 insulation. I’m not sure how expensive that’d be though.

In the south of france, I’ve used slipcast concrete with insulation and render. It was cheap because it was quick.

Absolutely the cheapest and simplest… dig a hole a put a roof on it. Great insulation as well.

Pretty energy demanding if you want to heat (In Sweden the ground temperature is about 10°C (50°F). Moisture is also a problem…
