Layout - Line control - eg scaling a line using scale grips

Is there a possibility that a simple line (two points) could be scaled in the same direction as that line?
This scale control technique I’m suggesting already works for rectangles.

This is an example of the issue - I want to scale this line to make it longer or shorter. Not scale by the Bounding Box:

I notice that, while I can move the rotation anchor a line, this does not fix the Scale direction.

Additionally, it would very nice to see a Constraint (magenta colour line) that follows the alignment of the Line…the idea is to enable me to grab the end anchor point of the line, and move it to extend or reduce the length, but maintain the original alignment (which might be critical in my drawing).

Finally, I am unsure about how to use the Measurements input box to change the length of a line. When I click on a line and enter a number (or a unit eg 20mm), nothing happens to the line, and the input box says “invalid string”. Is this an error or a missing feature?

General comment - I don’t often use LayOut for technical drawings..but i do use it for detailed annotations and some mapping of site plans and location plans. It would be nice of the tools worked more like SketchUp…more accurate.

If I understand the issue correctly, with the new Scale tool (version 2025), after you have selected the diagonal grips that are inline with the direction of the line – press the down arrow to constraint the scale in the direction of the line.

Just grab the top left or bottom right scale handle and scale holding down the shift key!

The alternative, double click the line to bring up the anchor points and move one.
