Thank you again everyone for the help. I figured I might get one person who might respond but I’m quite surprised by the amount of people who have taken the time to give input. I’m off to a good start right now.

The Mosa Pattern Generator is a simple online design tool that can be used to design unique and creative patterns. The generator’s library contains a large selection of grids and patterns for inspiration, all developed by the Mosa design team. The patterns can be applied directly as they are and can also serve as the basis for a custom pattern.

As a Dutch tile manufacturer with over 130 years of experience,
Mosa offers unique and distinct tile concepts for walls, floors, facades and terraces.
In the USA the products of Mosa are promoted, sold and distributedexclusively by Mosa USA, Inc.
Creating components can be done very quickly and saved into your library. You can drag and drop components to libraries on PC I am not sure about on Mac. I assume you are looking to get a bill of quantities as well?
I run a building company in Sydney Australia, We use DC’s for Tile layouts. You probably do not need to learn DC’s as one tile could probably do 90% of your work. It is possible to create complex Dynamic component that work with angles, wastage, bull nose as well yet the time to learn could probably be better spent on customers and drawing manually. It may be a good idea to get someone to create you a Dynamic component or search the warehouse.
If you need a complex Dynamic component created let me know as I make Stairs, windows, louvres and very detailed Dynamic components for manufacturers, engineers and architects special needs.
You can contact me through the RubySketch website RubySketch
Thanks Duane,
I’m not quite sure what you mean by this. Although, I’m a beginner, I have been able to create Dynamic Componets, although not too complex yet. Can you please elaborate on taking a picture, print them out, and paste them to the wall? Are you referring to literally posting 70-100 pieces of paper on my clients walls? I’m very confused
Thanks,
Erika
I was being a little rude. However, unless you really need 3 D CAD and I
believe you do not, the time you will spend will be tremendous. At least
you are not trying to model an entire house. As a professional, it may be
well worth the effort needed to master a 3d modeling program but another
huge effort will be required if you intend to get high end results from
rendering.
Thank you Duane for clarifying. I am a professional and have been doing my work for fifteen years. I have many million dollar clients and would love to give them renderings much more professional than I currently do. I also have an IT background so I’m willing to take on the challenge. I plan to purchase a rendering program once I have gotten a handle on the program. God has blessed me with an analytical brain, as well as a creative brain, so I plan to take advantage of it. I appreciate you being candid, but I will make this work. I am flying to Seattle next week for some additional training from someone else that is in the profession, so I can be off to a quicker start.

Hi Erika. I do a lot of this work. You would be best to use seemless textures. You can make them in sketchup and apply them to a wall, giving you a tiled look. Groups or component can be really fast if you are only using square or rectangles. Using the scale tool and copy array you can tile a wall in minutes with all the cuts. I recommend using www.bright3D.com for render bathroom and tiling. I CAN DO A VIDEO as a demo if you request it. Daniel patrick
Nice one…
but it should definetely match the theme.
Hi Daniel,
You must have been reading my mind. Although, I get the concept of using squares/rectangles, I was having a hard time designing anything else. I would love to see a video if you have the time. Do you have examples of your work that I could view? I’m still trying to fully grasp what the possibilities are for me in Sketch-Up. I have a 6000 sf house that I have to draw out very soon and the tile is very detailed, I have been dreading it as I’m not experienced enough yet.
Thanks so very much!!! Erika
Sketchup is well suited for this type design but, there is a learning curve so frist time suggest you do not hesitate to come back here for help.
You should plan on building a library of parts you can use in the design. Some manfactures will provide models in the catalogs of tiles, edge treatments etc.
My only suggestion is you learn in your design approach on how to avoid short tiles and raw edges. The first thing I always look for is the balance of design. For example the two short tiles on middle wall at top in your PIC and two at bottom. Depends on your customer I guess?
Drawing multiple size of tiles is easy. Components in SU are invariant under scale, rotate, and copy although scaling has some artifacts one needs to know about.
