Issues with Layout

Hi All,

I’m working on a drawing I’ve exported from Sketchup to Layout. For some reason I’m always getting this yellow exclamation mark symbol on the bottom right of the drawing. I’m saving scenes in SU and simply using those scene on layout as I thought was best practice. This has happened befoire and I’ve been advised to make sure these files aren’t saved under any names with symbols as this can cause issues. I’ve checked and I’ve done this. I’ve added screenshots to show what version of SU I’m using and a picture showing the problem. It seems to be an issue with the linking of the drawing in SU as I have to keep updating the reference. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also I keep getting asked to update the latest version of sketchup but I’ve done this and yet it will keep asking. Are these issues linked??

The yellow exclamation mark indicates that LayOut has detect the SketchUp model has been updated and the viewport needs to be rendered. With the viewport selected, go to the SketchUp Model panel and tick the box for Auto Render.

Share the LO file so we can see more about what you have set up.

They are not linked. You are just being notified that there’s a new version of SketchUp and LayOut available. Depending on which version of the Mac OS you are using, you may want to update to 2024.

Hi Dave,

Thanks for the reply. Here’s the LO file I’m working on. I’ll do as you say in terms of the rendering.

I just opened your file. The first thing I see is that you’ve modified the Camera properties for the viewport. That means that the viewport won’t reflect what the scene shows.

You can see what happens when you reset the Camera.

There should be no need to modify the Camera in LayOut in the first place. When you set up the scene, center the part of the model you’re interested in within the model window. Your Units 1 and 2 scene looks like this.

Select that part of the model, right click on it and choose Zoom Selection. Then update the scene so it looks like this.

After you’ve done that and updated the scene, save the changes. Reset the Camera for the viewport and update the model reference.

By the way, make sure you haven’t been editing the backup version of the SketchUp model. It would have a ~ immediately before the .skp extension. It seems to be a common thing for Mac users to be editing the wrong model file.

And another thing.

I fixed incorrect tag usage in your model. All edges and faces should be created and remain untagged.

I also purged a bunch of unused stuff from the model file. I corrected the scenes so the model fits in the window correctly and then after saving I updated the LayOut file and reset the Camera for the three of the four viewports that needed it. I would suggest that you do your dimensioning in LayOut instead of in SketchUp.

Here’s the updated LayOut file. You can open the SketchUp file by right clicking on a viewport and then Open with SketchUp.
