There are multiple text input fields in several of the pallets that do not return focus to the modeling window after pressing return. These have been noted and a source of complaint for many years without change. It would be great to get this fixed.

Try this yourself. I mean actually try it, because you are probably used to doing it in a way that works and will respond with that procedure.
Add a component. Go to the entity box “definition” field. Type a name for the component.
On my Mac, the “enter” key highlights the whole name in the field. (This is the trap that gets me.)
On my Mac, the “tab” key (as Wo3Dan proposed) does nothing.
Grabbing the mouse and clicking back on the drawing does change the focus as expected.

Hi,
When I press CMD-G to type a group, the cursor is not in the group field, but I can live with that.
But when I type text in the group field and press tab or return, the cursor stay inside with the text highlighted.
But as quick as I am, or slow, then f.e I like to do some thing with the object, wat is stil selected of course, and I type a letter like M for move or Q for rotate or any other letter, the text in the group field is replaced with my m or q. Things are happened here, depending …

They did (for the Text callout objects) because they wanted an ENTER to insert a line feed, rather than force the user to use a “soft return” (ie, SHIFT+ENTER).
So this means that to signal SketchUp that you are done with text entry,
you must double click the ENTER key, (Ie, carriage return on a blank line.)
I agree this is behavior is outside the norm. I would support some user settings in the Preferences dialog.
(I myself am more used to using the soft return for line feeds in multi-line…
Fix the issue with focus (Mac only I think) when pulling down or changing a layer in SKP. I have so many layers named ‘m’ and ‘p’ and ‘l’. Such a time sync.
FIX IT! If I press enter, I want focus to change back to drawing window.
This ridiculous behaviour drives me @#$$%^&* insane. It is literally the only software I have ever seen or used that doesn’t release focus on enter/return.
Every single day I end up accidentally renaming a component and/or layer with a single letter shortcut (most often “m”). The fact that the SU dev team has let this idiosyncratic and UI-hostile behaviour stand for so many years is completely baffling to me. (just as their ridiculous logic for file save locations that scatters files all over …

You can also get non-empty layers with blank names, and layers whose names are other shortcut keys. We’ve complained for years about how the Mac SketchUp GUI leaves an entry field focused and all selected after you hit enter, but to no avail. Usually it’s just a nuisance, but a crash elevates it to a bug!

Pressing enter twice, double tab, double return, shift-enter, escape key. None of these work on the Mac and there is currently no way to move the focus from the text entry box, whether it is layer name, component name or any other field box. This means that if your next keyboard press is a shortcut then you will rename the text. Despite knowing this for years, it still catches me out and I find layers titled with a space and have to spend time fixing my error to avoid enormous difficulty down t…
