How to trim this tile piece?

Hey guys. Glad to meet you all. Second day using Sketchup and having a blast but am stuck. Creating a bathroom remodel design. In the tile shower there is a niche. I took the tile (already a component) from the floor and copied up it a few times until I got here where it needs to be trimmed around the opening. Made it unique to try drawing a line and erasing the overlap but no luck. It’s simple, I just can’t figure it out. Thanks

Right click on the tile component and choose Make Unique. Then double click on it with the Select tool to open it for editing. Trace out the part you want to cut away with the Line or Rectangle tool (your choice). Then Push/Pull to eliminated the waste.

BTW, please correct your forum profile. It says you are usinng SketchUp Free which is web based. Your image shows you are using the desktop version though. That information, when it is correct, helps us help you.

Sounds good, I will try this in the am and update you. Thanks. Profile updated

You can check what gpu you have by pressing Ctrl+Alt+del, open the task manger go ton performance, there you’ll see the processor, gpu’s and ram that your machine has. If you just downloaded sketchup from the website you must have the latest one, 2023.

Hi Jacob, I made the mistake of jumping in too deep when I first started using SU and got frustrated when I couldn’t model what are complex ideas. I took the advice of the extremely helpful folks here in this forum and sta rted at the beginning of the free tutorials and learning packages. It took a couple of months for me, who has not used any cad type stuff and now I model to a reasonable standard as I understand what each tool does and the interaction between faces, groups and components within the model.
My advice is that you might be better off starting at the beginning before jumping into complex modelling.

To help achieve your goals, some time spent at the SketchUp Campus and at the SketchUp - YouTube channel will be very worthwhile. Both sites are from the SketchUp team. On the YouTube channel, pay attention to the Square One Series and Level UP series. They cover the basics for each tool.

I appreciate that fellas. I’ve been using YouTube so far but will watch the campus videos. When I got into this I just wanted a design for a new bathroom lol. Which is still my only goal for now. Last thing I thought would be using a cad software. Little do I know this is super enjoyable and maybe something I would pursue to a deeper level who knows.

Anyways, with the help, very easily got past where I was stuck and made good progress. Let’s see how this turns out in the end.

Best of luck and I hope you manage to achieve your goals.
