Hi guys, here to refresh this old topic.
I understand the behaviour if I want to control the visibility of a sub component which is nesten within another one, and it’s very cool!
Is there a way to control the visibility for several sub components, with the on click function? Would be extremely handy for the thing I’m working on!
hiding and nested components don’t go well together, especially if you planning to work with different scenes, The ‘Hidden’ property will not keep for nested components when switching scenes.
Maybe an approach with making certain layers invisible, combined with DCs will work better in managing visibility more permanent.
Can you elaborate on why you would want to specifically use ‘Hide’ over working with layers?
Basically, I’d prefer hiding sub-components for a more intuitive management. My component is a wooden beam which could be painted 1,2 3 or 4 sides. I thought it would be easier to click on the face one wants to paint, rather than doing other operations. But I accept all suggestions!
You now mention painting faces which doesn’t make it any clearer to me, I’m afraid.
I consider hiding for temporarily working on models. Layers is for long term work flow.
Can you give (a) screen shots with the nested component that is in the way?
Consider a nested component as an object that needs to “have its own layer” that you can assign to it. (“you don’t assign entities to layers but do the opposite in SketchUp!”)
Nevermind Wo! I figured this issue out with a colleague of mine.
My intention (which always aims to a report, in this case) is to have a basic component with the possibility to choose which faces are actually “painted”. The paint, actually, is some kind of cloth, which we use to finish the raw wooden beam. I wanted the possibility to go back to different “painted faces configuration”, and make it simple for my colleagues to use this function.
If it’s useful to someone I can upload the model, so you can understand!
