For some reason when I group objects and then later want to edit the group, when i double click to edit the group, all other shapes disappear while i edit that group. It didn’t used to do this. I want t be able to see other elements while I edit a group. Please help!
Window >> Model Info >> Components…
and set the visibility…

You can control whether and how much the rest of the model is faded out when you edit a group or component. See the dialog on Model Info > Components.
