Continuing the discussion from Color by Layer, but only certain layers?:

Perhaps it would be possible to only display the Çolor By Layer’ Style to objects that are assigned to any other Layer then the Default ‘Layer0’

Usage: Clay render style within context

I’d rather have the ability to assign styles to individual layers, and then set one style to monochrome and another to shaded with textures. This is a lot more versatile than having to assign Layer0 to everything that should be textured.
