MAJ FollowMe – Smart Profile & Material Control for Follow Me

In standard Follow Me workflows, users face two major problems:

  1. Selecting and managing profiles
  2. Finding and assigning the correct material to those profiles

A common workaround is loading many profiles into the model and manually applying materials one by one until the desired result is found. This process is slow, messy, and inefficient.

MAJ FollowMe solves both problems.

The extension provides a dedicated profile list. Using the Left and Right arrow keys, you can instantly cycle through available profiles—fast, clean, and without cluttering your model.

Once the right profile is selected, you can switch its material just as easily using the Up and Down arrow keys. Materials can be added to or removed from the list at any time, giving you full control over the result.

Adding Profiles

To add a profile, simply click Pick Profile.

  • The first click selects the profile geometry
  • The second and third clicks define the reference point and direction

By pressing and holding the ALT key, you can select multiple profiles in a single operation. As long as ALT is held down, profiles will continue to be added to the list.

Profiles may contain holes and complex geometry, and the list supports multiple profiles at once. This allows you to draw several profiles simultaneously—up to highly complex assemblies, even entire buildings—in a single operation.

Greetings,

To my surprise – perhaps I’m missing something – this plugin, which I purchased and which wasn’t exactly cheap, doesn’t have a feature (like Profile Builder, for example) that automatically creates a profile by clicking on a path.

For example, I select a profile and then click on a path to specify the direction and extent of the profile.

Is the absence of this feature intentional, or am I missing something?

Feature Update: Smart Path Navigation

While this plugin does not include a “follow mouse” feature, it offers a streamlined Path Following system designed for precision and ease of use.

How it works: By simply pressing and holding the ALT key, the plugin will automatically select the next point along your defined path.

This manual-override approach keeps the workflow functional and simple, allowing you to progress through complex paths at your own pace without the unpredictability of automatic mouse tracking.

Hello, thank you for your feedback.

Yes, I have used the ALT key, but it’s very awkward when dealing with long arcs or curves, especially those with many segments.

It’s easy to stray from the path.

I don’t think this is the intended behaviour.

Profile Builder has no issues with this function and works almost instantly.

I thought your plugin would work similarly and… perhaps even better.

If I understand correctly, is there no way, for example, to select a space frame (lines) and apply globally the functions of your plugin?

Only ALT key. MAJ FollowMe design for a free movment. Simply you can jump from an object to another. For example you can use ALT key and follow a line till middle then jump to edge of a 3D object.
