Floating Text Color By Tag Bug?

I use floating text boxes frequently to keep reminders and notes on my screen in SketchUpPro (Text Tool > click in the corner > start typing).

I like to assign these floating notes to a Tag to quickly hide them and get them out of the way.

I have noticed if I toggle “Color By Tag” on, the objects in the model will respond as expected and change to whatever color the Tag is set to…but the floating text will not, it will remain as black text…unless you toggle it’s visibility on or off (little eyeball in the Tags menu). Then it will change to the assigned Tag color.

This also seems to happen if I toggle “Color By Tag” back off. The floating text will remain as it’s tag color until the visibility is toggled.

Oddly, if I repeat this process with a dimension…the leaders will act normally and the color will switch when Color By Tag button is pressed, but the numerical dimension does the same thing as the floating text box…it’s Tag color will remain on the screen until visibility is toggled.

I would hesitate to even call this a bug…maybe an abnormality at best and certainly not anything that impacts workflow or ever merits more than a confused “…huh, weird”.

Hope this is the right place to post this. I did a search and didn’t find a topic that seems to mention this.

Does this issue manifest with only one or both graphics engines?
If so which one? (The classic or the new)

Dan,

After scratching my head for a moment because I will admit I did not know there was an option to choose between the two, and then spending a few minutes to educate myself, I can answer your question.

This issue appears to only exist with the New graphics engine. When I switched to Classic and restarted the program, the Color By Tag function now works as expected with objects, floating text, and dimensions.

I then switched back to New to double check, and sure enough, the weird quirk had returned.

Thanx. Yes, so it a bug as they want the new graphics to act as much like the old as possible.
