I should have been clearer, 20 minutes more or less per page and a set can take 3+ hours. I do exhibit and immersive media theatrical productions. I’ve been a SU user since version 4(?).
That’s pretty much how I do it too
Dave,
I have used Sketchup for 8 years as a professional now and your question is as irritationg as it can be. Seems to be the standard answer for companies without a valid answer.
I wish Trimble/Sketchup reviewed the questions and took a really serious grip around Layout.
Must be much more user friendly.
Please have a great autumn 2024 ![]()
After those type of answers @DaveR is one of the biggest problem solvers on the forum. And he is not part of the SketchUp team, he is a user as us.
Layout 2024 has a draft mode and an experimental graphics engine.
ok, so basically, when someone state they have a problem, it can be one of the following
- problem caused by the OS. we can’t do anything about it.
- problem caused by the software. something might be done by us / you, but it’ll likely need an update. at least knowing it means a bug report is created
- problem caused by the file. corruption, need of optimisation, and that can be solved by sharing a file. at the same time, if your files are absolutely magnificent, then it’ll allow us to rule out the file as a source.
- problem between the keyboard and the chair. people not using SU / LO as they should. again, sharing a file can rule this one out.
When Dave asks for a problematic file, it’s to rule out as many points as possible.
we might open your file on a mac and a pc to see if it’s OS related. a beta tester might try it in some future version. and we can poke in the file to see if something can be optimised there.
allow me this analogy.
you go to your garage and say “well when I shift gears, the car makes a weird noise”.
the car mechanic will check the engine. because it could be a dead transmission. if it’s not, he might take it for a ride. if it’s all fine, he might ask you to drive it to see possible errors (not enough clutch)
but if, when he asks to see the car, your first answer is “I find irritating that you ask to see my car, when obviously the car company should solves the issues”…
then your car will keep making weird noises when you shift gears.
Hello everyone!
I use Sketchup and LO professionally since 2011. I currently have the 2023 version and i find it too hard to work with LO. It’s too slow ! i’ve been in front of one page since an hour ago, watching the blue circle circling…there are only two pages!! I have vector mode in every linked object, a dimension layer and a text layer… please help!
This, combined with high-polygon entourage elements (usually from the 3D Warehouse) is the most common reason for slow viewport updating. How many edges and faces does your model have (with nested components included)? When there are millions, things will slow down, especially with vector or hybrid ren dering.
Can you share the file?
There are probably 5-10x more edges and faces in that faucet than in the entire rest of the model.
How are the wire mesh grids made? If you made them - how many segments were used when you made the wire?
What graphics engine are you using? Classic or new?
