I am a newbie and trying to get past this very silly hurdle. Every time I enter a dimension to extrude and then try to duplicate that dimension on my next extrusion by double clicking, the dimensions appear, but they are going in the opposite direction as the first box? Am I insane or is this an easy fix???
You have front and back faces, the blue one being the back face. When you double click it will move in the same direction as the original according to it’s face.

You can reverse the face (or many faces at once) via the context menu.
Right Context Click on the face > Reverse Faces
