Hexagon B July 21.skp (339.2 KB)
Hello,
I’ve been coloring certain sections of my model light brown (hexadecimal # 965F29).
This morning those light brown colors were display orange. I used the eyedropper and at first the orange was # A9743D. Later it changed to # A5713B.
What’s going on? Is it my computer? I have a Mac with OS 14.5.

by default the sun is your camera. when you move around, when you orbit, the luminosity of the faces changes as well.
I’m gonna assume you used the eyedropper at the bottom left of the material panel. this one sees the actual pixel on screen. therefore, moving or orbiting will give a different result.
that’s because it’s not sketchup’s eyedropper. it’s mac os’s one.
if you want to use sketchup in-model eyedropper, grab the bucket tool, and press command. That one will select the material in your material panel, regardless of the orientation / position toward the sun.
hello, in addition to what Pierre said, if you want to remove this “effect”, go to the shadows panel, check the “use sun for shading” and set light to 0 and dark to 100. it will all be uniform no matter how you orient your model (of course photoreal materials also has to be unactive)
The mac colordropper samples the screen, in sketchup the colour you see is affected by both shading and lighting.
That’s most likely the reason for it being different.
You can edit the material and see what colour value is being used - this will be correct.
How to I find the “photoreal materials” check box?

if you still are on 2023 version as your profile says, don’t pay attention to that line, it was just for 2025 version users
