Curic Extensions: Make2D

Hi, I’ve just released a new extension for SketchUp is Curic Make2D to make 2D Objects as Geometry or Image easy and quickly!

Hope you like it.

  • Sketchup version: 2019.2 +
  • OS Compatibility: Windows, macOS

Get the plugin here!
Or buy Curic Studio package (including Make2D) .

Thanks.

Very useful looking plugin.

I have a few of your extensions and they are all brilliantly realized: highly functional with intuitive, easily understood UI’s. Trimble should hire you.

Nice work!

hey there,

why only offer it in studio and not also as standalone?

Looks professionally designed with the plane preview, the choice of colors, the ability to redraw with new parameters and the look of the dialog window!

Can I purchase just the curic 2d plugin?

Yes, I was prepared to buy it had it been standalone - I even emailed Curic saying that I already had his Drawing Tools and wasn’t about to spend on Studio just to get the 2D Tools

Curic Make2D has now been released standalone!

The plugin is useful but unfortunately it doesn’t make 2d when wireframe wiev is on and can’t see through the component.
And that is big bummer

Q: Does the resulting 2D output geometry retain any nested group structure or tag assignments of the source 3D object? If so, this would be very useful for pre-processing models for CNC/Laser production.

I have just checked, and you are correct; it cannot make 2D when wireframe mode is enabled. I will look into this issue and fix it soon. Thanks!

Unfortunately, the plugin is not able to do this! It’s a great idea though!

Is this extension updated for SketchUp 2023? I was using it today and was seeing a fair number of bug splats, either with just the make geometry function or sometimes a minute or two after I used the “make image” tool.

I am having the same problem related by Justin: lots of crashes.

I was playing with Make 2D, basically making 2D views of furniture. In most of the cases it worked fine but in others Sketchup crashed as soon as I placed the mouse over the blue rectangle in the Make 2D window.

I am running Sketchup 2023 on Mac.

I’m enjoying this tool so far. I’m curious if it’s possible in a future update to have the option to apply object materials to the 2D geometry instead of the image as a texture?

Additionally, the “current view” function does not seem to work. For example, I expected to be able to create a 2D isometric object using the “current view” feature, but this does not work. I’m using Sketchup 2022 on a PC.

As the tooltip says, Current View isn’t meant to replicate your current view exactly, but to select one of the 6 standard views (4 sides+top and bottom) just by looking at the object from around that side, without having to go through the menus.

“Create an orthographic drawing of the object from my current camera angle” could be a feature request though I guess.
