Code 109 when trying to save in Layout 2016

After certain changes the layout file cannot be saved. Message includes ‘Layout The error code is 109.’. When I delete a particular arrow with message, I get the error when saving, How can fix this?

I am running SketchUp PRO 16.1.1449 64-bit on Windows 10 64-bit. I have been using the SketchUp PRO for several years, and have had 2016 installed for roughly a year. I have been working on this layout file for a couple of weeks. I have never seen this problem until yesterday.

Hi-

Error 109 is a very particular internal error in the LayOut document - as far as I know, you’re the only one who has ever reported seeing it. I would be very, very interested in any information you can share about how the document got into that state. Unfortunately I don’t have any way to fix your existing situation, but if you can share your workflow we might be able to fix the underlying issue so it doesn’t happen again.

Thanks,
Marc

Actually, there’s one thing you could try if this is a valuable document - delete the entire page where you’re seeing the issue and then try saving again. If saving is still broken, “undo” to restore the page and then try deleting the next page. If you succeed in saving this way, at least you’ll only lose one page.

Sorry you’re having this issue, we hate issues that cause people to lose work.

Hi Marc

I use Layout for my client’s landscape plan drawings. So maybe I really push Layout.

My Landscape plans are usually only one page, or maybe two, but can be complex.

This Layout file is a Planting plan and is created from copying and editing the Master plan file.

As an Ex-IT person, I felt something must be corrupted, and did some further investigation.

I tried deleting a specific arrow+message several ways (including using Layers).

However, I couldn’t save and got the 109. At one stage I even managed a 100.

I found I could update the file in any other way.

Following your suggestion, I created a new page and cut and pasted the page contents I (but not the problem) into it.

I then deleted the original page and was able to SAVE.

So thanks very much.

By the way, my License is RA-00011107-HUW (I got that wrong in the call I lodged).

Would you like to see the original file.

Kind regards

The copy/paste idea was brilliant, I’m glad you got it worked out.

If you are able to create the error again, I would be very interested in seeing your file and hearing about how you were able to recreate it. Unfortunately, with these save errors it’s impossible to save a copy of the actual damaged file for us to troubleshoot (we’re working to improve this situation).

thanks,
Marc

Hi Marc

I still have the damaged File.

I saved it as another name and all I changed today was removal of client name in title block.

It still has the error which I moved to the right hand side yesterday. I can deleted it, but then file cannot then be saved.

Error is arrow with ‘3 Abelia 'Kaleidoscope’.

If you can give me your individual email address I can share file in Dropbox. File is ~29MB.

Kind regards

I would love to have that file. My direct email address is marc@sketchup.com.

The team will be out of the office next week so I will touch base when I get back.

Thanks,
Marc
