Cannot continue because mfc140u.dll was not found

I see that the problem I have is mentioned here before but I can’t find any solution. Now I get the following error message when I start sketchup pro 2026:

Code execution cannot continue because mfc140u.dll was not found. Reinstalling the application may resolve the issue.

I have both uninstalled and reinstalled the program but still get the same error message on my windows 11 PC.

What should I do?

See my reply in this thread.

When you run the offline installer be sure you right click on it, choose Run as administrator and if prompted, choose the Repair option.

install these from microsoft

Download Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2015 from Official Microsoft Download Center

These are included in the SketchUp installer - so I’m not sure why you’ve reinstalled it and then it is still missing.

I have done that but unfortunately it didn’t help because I get the exact same error message when I restart.

Your suggestion to reinstall C++ solved the problem but I also don’t understand why the file wasn’t included with a new installation.
But I don’t have to worry about it now that everything works again

I’m guessing that the installer simply checked whether the Visual C++ package was installed, and Windows reported that it was—even though one of the required files was missing. Because of that, when the SketchUp installer ran, it didn’t attempt to reinstall or repair the C++ package.
