Cannot click to select group - only drag - then can't edit

Hi, long time Sketchup user. Just started using 2026 and all was fine. But suddenly I can’t just click on a group to select it. I have to drag to select. Then I can’t right click to edit the group. It turns blue, as usual. I try to right click, it unselects. Of course, this is happening while I have a project due and really slowing things down. I am also not able to put a dimension to any groups or start a line from a point on the group. Any suggestions on how to fix this (maybe there is a setting that has changed?) are very appreciated. Thanks!

There was a bug that caused this and I can’t remember the specifics, nor do I have the time now to search for a related thread, but from memory, when you have it selected, hit enter, this should open the group for editing and when you close it again it should behave properly.

Thanks so much. I’ll give that a try.

Sadly, it didn’t work when I closed the group back up but thank you again for the suggestion.

I am having the same issue here and have tried quite a few of the fixes suggested on the SKP forum, but no luck so far. With deadlines coming up, it is getting quite frustrating. Has anyone found a workaround that actually works?

This is in SketchUp 2020?

No it’s in SKP 2026.

Please correct your forum profile.

Sounds similar to a bug to mine that had with similar behaviors hasn’t been fixed yet: Sketchup 2026 unselectable group bug

In short, when you create a blank group and make stuff in the group then close the group, the bounding box seems to randomly jump around, causing the group to be impossible to click. You’ll have to try to drag to select in hoping of clipping the bounding box, then when you try to right click it, since the right click itself misses the bounding box, it deselects it instead of giving a drop down menu.

For now, Items inside the group can be taken out using outliner and exploding the group, then making a new group.

For now, avoid using right click make blank group and modeling inside of it until the sketchup team fixes this. Make the geometry first, THEN make a group afterwards.
