In sketchup pro on a PC
Is it possible to work in a tag/layer rather than modelling something then having to assign it to a layer/tag. Seems rather time consuming. WOuld be great to work in the correct tag like you would in autocad
Yes you can, but would not advice this workflow.
Best to model everything on the âUntaggedâ Tag, and only reassign Groups and/or Components to a specific Tag.
But if you like the exitement of wondering why things do not work as planned, the way to change the modelling tag is to reassign the pencil next to the Tag you want to model on.
It is possible, but not recommended, especially for beginners.
It would help you more if you worked in SketchUp the way you should work in SketchUp.
And assigning tags to components and groups could be fast if you learn the basics at learn.sketchup.com. Also, try Tag Tool.
thanks for your help on this!
Thanks for this⌠Iâm not a beginner but was wondering if possible as certainly better in autocad & feel im doubling up in sketchup but as a couple of you think this isnt best practice maybe I shouldnt :0)
Even if youâre an expert, eventually youâll make a mistake and will end up mixing tags on loose geometry, the best is to assign tags to groups and components and if you need to assign tags to loose geometry do it after creating and grouping the object.
Youâre welcome!
Itâs ok, no problem, usually beginners ask this and they want to work in SketchUp as they worked in Autocad.
Actually⌠several people make that recommendation, including from the SketchUp team - https://help.sketchup.com/en/sketchup/controlling-visibility-tags
Yup, totally agree that creating geometry on anything other than Untagged or former 0 is an absolute no no ! Weâve seen too many disasters with that & so drill this rule into any newcomers to the office, whether they are newbies or not (some âexperiencedâ modelers have surprised us over the years)âŚ
thanks for this! Glad I hadnât figured it out on my own as Iâve had a lucky escape I think! Thanks all for your comments & feedback
