When you go to the Import window what supported file types do you see? Share a screenshot of what you see. I have SketchUp Go and see this:
And the import looks fine.
Or are you getting to this window? If so, what units have you selected?
Share the .stl file so we can check to see if it’s an issue with the file you are trying to import.
OK. So as it shows, you need to upgrade to a SketchUp Go subscription to be able to import .stl files along with those other types of file. Presumably you were using a trial version of Go when you imported stl files previously. And that trial has since expired.
ive been using the free web version for years,
Perhaps @colin can confirm if there’s been a change in available import options for the free version but the message is very clear that importing those file types listed require you to upgrade to at leat a Go subscription.
right thanks
martin
@tommy_acierno would know if there has been a recent change.
it looks like if i want to be able to import stl files i must upgrade to a subscription (minimum £113.16 per year)
I think that’s right. Looking back at older stuff it seems like all 3D imports into the web version might have required the Go subscription at least. You would have started with a trial of Go intiailly but that eventually ended.
not as far as i remember ! ive never had any sort of subscription, just used the free online version.
thanks
martin
Yes but when you first started using it you would have been given a trial period for Go. At that time you would have had access to all of the features included in a Go subscription until the trial period ended. Then it would revert to just the features included with the Free version.
that would mean the trial version of go would have to have been 8 years then
There was a bug where the Free version of SketchUp for Web would correctly say that you needed to upgrade when importing an STL but it would import the file anyway. That bug has been fixed. Importing and Exporting do, indeed, require a subscription. The free version of Web, however, can still download STL files for use with projects like 3D printing.
thanks , so importing stl’s has recently been removed from the free version of web.
thanks
