Does anyone out there know how to specify values for moving control points in Bezier Surfaces. So far, the only way I can find is to specify a value in “length snapping”, and then watch for the distance I want to appear in the Measurements window.
If you are referring to Thomthom’s Bezier Surface extension, from memory he released that as is in a beta format and had no plans to develop it further, as such it has many issues, one of which being what you describe.
Note I say ‘from memory’ I may be wrong.
I think your memory serves you well. I’ve tried everything, and come to the conclusion that it is a work in progress. However, even in it’s current stage of development, it’s quite useful. I have a friend who is an architect, and wanted me to do a concept of a modern roof for a local library that might be built. He gave me the roof parameters for a 20’ X 30’ building, and this is what I came up with.
He loved it, and it meets all pitch codes. The best part is it took me about two minutes to do.
You should try vertex tools.
I try, as best as I can, to work with SketchUp’s native tools. Only a few of the plug-ins that I have are paid. I think it would be great if SketchUp included a fully developed Bezier Surfaces in its set of native tools. It’s certainly not high on my personal list, but I think it would be a great step for SketchUp to make. As it is, it’s a great tool.
Yes, sketchup needs to add a couple more native modeling tools, @JustinTSE made a poll few weeks ago, bevel tool was one of the most requested tools and I think that sketchup should add tools for quadface modeling and subdividing geometry. Trimble doesn’t like to have a public roadmap so we can’t know all the plans they have for sketchup.
For now you have a couple options for that, Artisan has great tools but from version 2 Mindsight decided to sell subscription licenses instead of perpetual like it used to be with Artisan 1, the tools I use are vertextools and quadface tools from ThomThom, vertex tools is $40 for a perpetual license and quadface tools is free, Artisan is $99/year.
