I really want to learn Sketchup for architectural projects. Trying to search out the best book, (most up to date), applicable to SU for iPad.
Any recommendations here?
I don’t know of any iPad specific books, but I will say that if you take the time to quickly learn what each of the basic tools do in the iPad version, then you can actually use any book for any SketchUp. The tools may be in different places and the pencil is a whole new game, but they do the same things as the desktop version.
Thank you Dani. I’m not an absolute beginner and I am somewhat familiar with all the tools. I guess it would be safe to say I’m ready to move on to step 2 of learning. Most of the books I’ve seen are pretty pricey. I’m ok with that as long as I’m getting what I’m after. No way of telling without recommendations.
Unfortunately I have only read the one book (Aaron’s "taking SketchUp to the next level).
The way I learned was by doing two things… Following any YouTube video that claimed to show SketchUp trick or tactic, and going though the forum, downloading the models of people looking for help and trying to follow the solves given by the sages and others to understand the problem.
Sketchup for iPad just has the native tools which makes it very easy and intuitive to learn, you can just check the playlist of square one of sketchup for iPad to learn how does every tool works, I’ll leave the link here.
However, if you want my honest opinion, I don’t think that sketchup for iPad is the best tool for architecture projects, the pro or studio versions are a lot better cause you can install plug-ins that can improve your workflow and will help you to get things done a lot faster than what you would do just by using the native tools and the most important factor is LayOut, there’s no better tool for 2D documentation out of a 3D sketchup model.
Thank You. My main architectural program is Revit and that will always be the case. I would like to use sketchup (for ipad ) for site meetings and modeling quick models for clients so they have a more comprehensive vision of what is to be done. I have sketchup pro and layout on my pc but I just don’t see any need for them.
SketchUp for iPad is good for the fun parts of modeling - just making stuff and playing with ideas with native tools. If you’re using Revit, that’s better at Construction Documents phase of work than it is at Schematic Design, say. How best to use the two together, I can’t speak to, but the iPad is a nice presentation tool with clients. Besides tutorials or books, I do recommend the Friday afternoon live streams. No, pressure - just watch and get comfortable with the process and listen to the commentary.
My thoughts exactly.. Thanks for the tips Robert.
