“Components hurt SketchUp performance compared to groups”. It is true that a large number of components will cause the component browser to become clogged and sluggish. I think that an equal number of groups vs component instances will have the same effect on the outliner - either will clog it up if large enough. So that’s a toss-up. "
This is a valuable point.
I’d like to add that too many components makes the Components browser very slow to open and view and this becomes highly problematic on large models. Also when opening a SU file it can take forever.
It would very very useful to know more about this as it relates to large models.
Does SketchUp’s internal referencing system handle groups and components differently?
If a model has 1000,000 unique groups, does that behave any differnetly to having 1000,000 unique components?
What about if you have 1000 unique groups but each group is used 1000 times. IS that any different to 1000 components with 1000 instances each?
