Animation Export Very Slow on Windows

Does anyone else have this problem? Both my Windows and Mac machines are about 5 years old, but my Mac exports 1 minute 4k animations in a few minutes while my Windows machine takes 7 HOURS for the same animation! Is this a bug or is my issue isolated?

Thanks,

C

Using Sketchup Pro 2026. I didn’t install the latest version that just came out, so I’m not sure what “version” it is per se. After I cancel the animation render on my Windows machine, the file goes haywire. Some objects become maybe 10x larger and I’m unable to select objects. The scenes don’t honor the tags I’ve assigned… I just end up closing and reopening my file. Lot’s of 3D Warehouse objects to decorate this scene, but I’ve never had this problem before.

Here’s the file:

I’m lookiong at your model and see some things to address but since @ateliernab is replying, I’ll stand down.

so,

  1. is your mac using the new engine ? is your pc ?

  2. what are the configs ? broad stokes ? are we comparing a 500€ notebook with a 2000€ macbook pro M2 ultra ?

  3. yeah, the windows exporter is not great. it can’t help

@DaveR Well I didn’t even download the file, so shoot away !
(I’m typing with one hand, ice cream in the other one)

Thanks for your reply. What’s the “new engine”? I am running the latest update.

My Macboob is a M1 from 2021, maxed everything.

My Windows machine has a 5950x, 3080 rtx, 64GB ram, etc.

Do you have a Windows machine you can use to test render the animation from the file I shared?

I did an animation export at 4k and on my Windows machine it said it would take 7 hours. My Macbook took a few minutes.

Thanks for checking the file, but I’m more concerned about the insane difference in export times between Mac and Windows here. Doesn’t make any sense to me!

6 minutes is a LONG time for a single image export, don’t you think? Do you usually deal with these kinds of export times? I would just take screenshots rather than wait that long, but for animation, I can’t do that.

Don’t patronize me.

Is there anyone else running Windows that can confirm this issue is only with my machine?

I’m not patronizing you but since you think so, I’m finished.

I told you exactly what I found with your model. The animation export was only six minutes as I wrote.

Share the file and I’ll try it on my machine when I have a moment

Thank you sir. Here’s the file:

Just want to confirm if the long animation rendering time is due to my own machine.

Thanks,

C

Hi,

The long animation rendering is due to your file.
the complexity of your model, as Dave explained (I don’t think it’s called patronising if the person is actually correct, maybe it’s a cultural difference). between each frame sketchup has to move, recalculate 5 million edges and 3 million faces, and save. in 4k.

I get 20 min on my mac mini m4 (now 30 but I’m also watching a stream on one browser and answering on another)
6h on my pc. now 7. same parameters.
looks like metal might handle massive piles of geometry than dx12.
plus, the animation exporter has been a bit more wonky on pc for a few years now.

trim the fat where / if you can (sometimes you can’t), it’ll still be faster on mac. but at least not as slow on pc.

Thank you for confirming the long render time on Windows.

I didn´t clean up or optimize anything o your model and exported it jus as it opened, it took 2 minutes and 20 second in my windows machine, I haven´t tested on my M1 Max Macbook Pro.

It´s the animation of the “raw” file you shared.

I took the same after purging 2mins 20 seconds

Heres the purged file just in case.

yeah, but that’s 720p @24 fps

I ran my tests with a 4000px wide image @30fps. slightly larger.

I got the 4k from there.
and the 30fps, well it’s not 1990 anymore, 30fps is youtube’s standard.

You´re right, I didn´t notice it, it was 3am in this part of the world, anyways today I exported at 4K 30fps and took 13.56 mins. Last week I installed windows from scratch and used ReviOS to get rid of One Drive, Copilot and all the telemetry software included with windows 11, I was thinking on installing AtlasOS but I´m used to the UI, AtlasOS uses the windows 10 UI, and ReviOS keeps the 11 UI which I prefer being a mac user as well.

Here´s the link to the 4K 30fps animation
