Add an option to set default number of segments for arcs/circles

Default number of segments is 12 for arcs and 24 for circles. Very often for me it’s too much (for visual and performance reasons). If there is a lot of arcs/circles in the model and want to change the number of segments in all of them or in all future ones you can’t do this. You have to do this manually and remember each time you draw a arc/circle to set the proper segments value. It’s really tedious and annoying.

Add an option to set default number of segments for arcs and circles in Model Info window (for each file).

IIRC if you draw an arc and circle in a template file, delete them, and save the file with all other things you want (tags, scenes, materials) the settings will be there when you use the template.

Not sure if it still working…

Can you make it step by step? I don’t understand.

It works, but still have to select all arcs/circles to change them.

Unfortunately not. At least not in the Windows version.

If you create and save the template as you suggest, then quit SketchUp and restart with that template arcs will still have 12 segments and circles, 24.

I’m hallucinating then. I will have to check on the Mac. I felt like this was a thing…

It ought to be a thing even if you are hallucinating.

EDIT:

Nope, restarting the SKP wipes resets back to default number of sides.

whaaaat ?

I need to do this to my template

Hmmm … Doesn’t do that on the PC even with the latest version. Is it possible you have Set Arc and Circle Defaults from Sketchucation installed?

Or maybe TIG-CircleArcDefaulter which is shared in the same thread which is also supposed to work on Mac.

Nope.
I guess I will have to test one more thing - quitting SKP and then starting a new file from the template.

Maybe that is the issue that wipes it out.

Yes. That would wipe out the setting. At least on Windows, after changing the number of segments for arcs and circles in one file I can start a new file or open an existing file and those segment numbers persist. If I quit SketchUp and restart, those settings go back to the default 12 and 24. This is why I wrote:

Just tried it. Same on Mac, didn’t think to re-start the session when I made the video.

I guess the easy thing for those who want a different number of segments is just don’t quit SketchUp. At least until the feature request is granted if that ever happens. I’m not holding my breath. It’s not a huge job for me to adjust the number of segments when I need to change it.

These are only workarounds. Please like this topic so maybe it will be implemented.

Unless I get a random crash… my machine tends to stay up with SKP open for days at a time.

Tested in on my Mac. Circles set to 48, arc to 24. Saved as template. The new template keeps the segments in circles 24, in arcs 12.

Exactly as I described.

I agree with Gregor Jan, it should be a setting.

This wouldn’t by any chance be one of those settings that could be changed by editing a JSON file with a text editor, would it? @colin would be the person I’d ask.
