About the Trackpad Navigation Discussion category

Trackpad Navigation is a new feature of SketchUp for Web to improve multitouch gestures for trackpads so users without a mouse can more successfully navigate in SketchUp. You will now be able to pinch-to-zoom and two-finger swipe to orbit and pan.

To try it out, load SketchUp for Web and open App Settings (from the ‘hamburger’ menu in the top left corner). Select the Navigation tab, then change your device from Mouse to Trackpad. Learn about all the settings on our Help Center page for this Labs project.

We’re introducing this capability with a SketchUp Labs designation because trackpads and mice behave differently across devices, operating systems, and even web browsers. If you run into problems, please share what device, operating system, and browser you are using. We’ll be listening eagerly for your feedback!

I’ve tried out Trackpad Navigation with the new Mac Trackpad on the Web version. I’d like to try it on a model I’m working on with Sketchup Pro 2021. Can I do that and if yes, how?

I do all of my modeling on Mac with the trackpad, but so far SketchUp desktop version doesn’t have any trackpad specific features. If you need to zoom you can use two fingers and move them up and down the trackpad. If you need to orbit you can hold down Control and Command as you start to drag (you can release them once you are orbiting). To pan you would hold down Shift, after you have started to orbit.
