3D Modeling a Drafting Table, Live!

This is like the table I had. Oak legs and frame with cast iron hardware.

I traded my first paid graphics design job (logo and business cards) for the table from a woodworker I was working with. I had that table from 1990 until sometime after 2006 or 2007. Used a parallel rule in it for a long time.

When I moved to a tiny farm house apartment in Vermont it was positioned horizontal to be used for my dining room table with an old stool. Aside my my bed and computer desk it was the only furniture I had (if you don’t count meditation cushions).

That sample illustration is quite similar to the table I have had since 1987 through my Package Design / Graphic Arts college days.

Right, and the tops were solid wood held to the cleats with metal clips to allow for wood movement.

Multiple decades old at this point. It’s lowered and folded down in the shot. Lots of sleepless nights sitting at that thing.

A Mayline. I still have mine, but I unmounted it and put it back in the box.
