Hello guys, I am currently working on an artificial reef concrete block and I’d like to know if any of you know about a 3D coral texture to apply onto my model. And by 3D I mean “relief” that adds some nice carvings to the surface (which is quite flat at the moment), not just a 2D printed coral texture.
If any of you get to know about it, let me know ! Thanks !
A texture would be an image. It sounds like you want to create geometry to represent the tiny holes and such. Your profile says you are using SketchUp Free (web) so extensions are out for you. You would need to do the modeling manually. There are a number of extensions that could be used to model coral but you’d need SketchUp Pro to use them. Either way, what you propose would add tons of geometry and could easily cause your computer’s performance to degrade. You would need to be careful about how you manage that.
Hello DaveR, thanks for your answer ! I don’t mind buying SketchUp Pro if I need to, do you have any extensions in mind that would help recreate those geometries rather than manually ?
Thank you !
There are a number of extensions that could help. The first ones that come to mind are Artisan, Vertext Tools, Fractal Eroder, etc. I’m sure I’m missing some.
As I wrote, adding loads of geometry can slow things down so you’ll want to make sure your computer can handle it. That means a fast CPU and a very good, preferably Nvidia, graphics card.
Look for ways you can create small blocks of the coaral as a component that can be copied. That will help some.
