Which version of SketchUp do I need to create an animation?

Which version of SketchUp do I need to create an animated walk through video? The website says animation doesn’t work with web versions but all of the versions on the pricing page are marked for web.

You need Pro. If this is a hobby, you can try locating the installer for the free SketchUp Make 2017 from a supplier you can trust, as it is no longer hosted by SketchUp.

Actually it kind of depends on what you want to animate and how much work you are willing to do. Since you indicate you are using Sketchup Free (web) in your profile I assume you are a hobby user. If that’s the case you could create a scene for each “frame” of your animation and then export an image of each scene. In a video editor, combine the images to create the animation.

If your time has any value to you, though, Pro is the way to go as @Anssi indicated.

Although the animation shown below was done in SketchUp Pro, it could have been made in SketchUp Free with a lot more effort.

Thanks for the response Anssi. I have an skp file from someone who designed a project for me. I’m trying to work out if it is more cost effective for me to buy the software and create the video myself or pay someone else to do it for me. I was hoping I would only need the Go package as $300 is a bit to steep for a one time project. Thanks again for the info! Much appreciated.

Thanks for the reply DaveR. I hadn’t thought of that. Great idea, but as a hobbyist that sounds like it would be beyond my skill set. In addition, the file seems to be too big for the free version to handle. I would have paid $120 for the Go version just to learn something new and have some fun with it, but compared to the $300 version I think I’m better off hiring someone on Fiverr to do the job. Thanks again for the response.

If you need to make complex animations you need the Pro version, and get the fredo animator plugin so you can do it a lot faster than using the scenes method.
