Hi, my name is Ben and I’m a carpenter working in the construction industry. I am new to SketchUp but will be using it to build and design new projects, including house extensions, new builds and kitchen remodels. I am a confident in the basics and will be taking on training this week with an external training provider to help me get up to speed. I work with SketchUp Pro on Mac and I’m looking forward to getting started on this journey!

Hi, my name is Joep and i’m from the Netherlands. I’m not entirely new to SketchUp but it has been a while (years). I did some simple drawings in the past. Nothing complicated.

I’m interested in drawing (Procreate) on my iPad and creating artforms etc. I would like to extend my knowledge and learn more about SketchUp. I hope this is the place to be for learning and when I have questions.

Greetings,
Joep

Hi, my name is Madeline and I’m from Puerto Rico. I’m a pharmacist by trade but have always loved architectural and interior design. I have been using the free version of Sketchup to draw up house plans for remodel. I really like Sketchup because it’s user friendly and have been able to self teach to draw up 2D and 3D models. I’m a beginner who would like to get more proficient using the tool to start designing more professional looking jobs.

Looking to learning more!

Regards! Madeline

Hi, I’m Ben. SketchUp now allows blended/overlay work on maps and satellite imagery. This allows me to do habitat designs with greater detail and specificity. My degrees are in Wildlife, Fisheries, and Public Health (Environmental Biology) with an emphasis on Systems Ecology. I put animals and humans in close proximity in conditions ranging from the city to wilderness. I achieve functional optimality over/within that range of developed to natural system types. I’m a beginner with SketchUp. I’m based in MS 11 computers. I’m a US citizen living in South Africa for over twenty years. I came here to develop Function-based Habitat Design. It works here. It works in the US. It can be used anywhere. Long walks in the bush in SA are very, very compelling. I’m looking forward to even better implementations when using SketchUp.

Hi,
I am Pink F
Sort of retired Hatmaker/Milliner, Sewist, pretty good knitter (making a sweater atm), can do basic weaving on an inkle loom, amateur quilter, and heaps of other stuff, can do but not mastered. This year I am really trying to up my sewing game and produce better quality clothing. Also have always loved collage, my profile pic is a postcard I made and sent.
I got Sketchup and a laptop when I found out how much it costs to hire an Architect. I was glad twice that I got Sketchup when I found out the cost of a structural engineer. Got a bit of Mac knowledge.
Currently using SU to put my house dreams into a paper example that my building Department will approve so we can build a hown home.
SU has been great for getting my ideas to literally show up, past week I have even opened files in Layout and exported as a pdf in order to email that doc to another. Interesting to note that I mailed 5 different docs and only 1 was the scale they wanted. 1/4 inch to a foot. Not clear on how I managed that one time. Best thing is just the whole thing, I believe someday I will be picking up approved plans and that will be because of SU and Layout.
I can’t even say I am good at SU, moving forward I really have to up my game and learn this.

  • Have you gone to a SketchUp 3DBasecamp?– Yeah, no.
Typing on a MacBook Air. Pretty sure I have the latest version of SU, all the dang tools got new looks. Living in the woods in a leaky trailer cause there is no other way to save unless you do something like this.

  • Do you have a 3D Warehouse page with your models, Extensions, or a website you would like to link to or show off to us?– Okay recently I think I went to a warehouse where I was able to get some house fixtures. Then I learned how to unlock it and get a sink and other things into a kitchen. Learned that from sketchupschool.
Okay, you know I like to sew, well one time, I didn’t have paper and used sketchup to model a gymbag I wanted to make. Seeing it in 3D is cool.

  • What is your favorite Emoji? Dark red heart.

  • Do you enjoy long walks on the beach...? If its not windy.

Hendrik Gideonse here. American in Boston, MA working in architectural acoustics and now doing a lot of stage and audio layouts for my non-profits doing music performances and potluck events for community building.

I have used SketchUp since it was free before Google and I am somewhat proficient. I want to learn more about dynamic components and how to improve the performance of the application.

Thanks for having me.

Norman here from France ! I’ve been a paper designer for over 10 years now.

I have been using several softwares including Sketchup for creating my templates and for the past 4 years we have been developping our own unfolding software with a friend called PaperMaker, it’s a freemium tool that lets everyone from any device unfold their lowpoly to flat template.

See you around

Hi,

my name is fjs.

I’m a German civil engineer running my own business, using Sketchup (SU) for pro-projects.

I came to use sketchup as I was looking for a easy to learn 3D drawing program, when I had to plan my sand- and gravel-pits washing machinery in 2011.

Here is why I use SU & LO:

SU is not a fixed program for a specific purpose but can represent anything: From industrial plants to mass calculations of gravel pits to rendered buildings, homes, etc.

SU shows in 3D whether my plans are feasible.

My favourite thing is the collaboration of SU and LO. I draw my plans without having to think about scale and page size, transfer them to LO and can choose the scales accordingly.

Hope you’ll call me ‘advanced’.

Never went to a 3DBasecamp

I’m on a windows workstation with 2 monitors:

  • Win 10 pro 10.0.19045 Build 19045

  • 12th Gen i9-12900KF, 3200 Mhz

  • 64 GB Ram

  • NVIDIA RTX A4000

  • 3840 x 2160 x 29 Hz

  • In use: 3Dconnexion Space mouse & Cad mouse

  • Sketchup pro from … to 2011

  • Sketchup pro 2024 new!

Our website is about sand gravel & concrete. That isn’t linked to you.https://emoji.discourse-cdn.com/twitter/slightly_smiling_face.png?v=12https://emoji.discourse-cdn.com/twitter/upside_down_face.png?v=12https://emoji.discourse-cdn.com/twitter/slightly_smiling_face.png?v=12

Hello, nice to meet you.I’m MIYU.
I work at a design office in Japan.
The content is designing hotels, libraries, etc.
I have been using Win-SketchUP2023 at my company since this year.
I came here because I didn’t have anyone to talk to.
I can use English well, so it takes time to communicate.

However, I would like to learn the sketchup technique.
thank you.

Hello Hello!! I’m back after a 15 year project. Once upon a time I was doing lots of SU professionally freelance, specializing in entertainment productions: theme parks, casinos, dark rides, stage sets, and super creative designs like that.

Using SU, I developed a style of animation and spent a dozen years creating a series of short animated videos. They are “visual metaphors” about human potential and inner strength. A bunch can be watched here: Treasure Inside on Vimeo and here Piece We Need on Vimeo

I finished my project and decided to make some money for a change. I am coming back to SU now and impressed by the improvements in speed, smoothness, and ease of use – which is probably partly my new pc.

I am hunting for work - creative needs, video presentations, maybe even theme parks again!

hi again, i am working on the latest ketch up web version, and i have a question:

yesterday on the train i was working on a fairly progressed drawing. i made the following mistake:
i accidentally deleted a rather complex part of the drawing and right after that i saved the drawing due to a interruption of the wlan connection on the train…
question to u all: can i open an -i.e. one day earlier- saved file of my drawing or is there any other way to get accidentally deleted items back?

Hi I’m Jenny. I’m a newbie, having used SU for about 4 years just for hobby and our own building projects. I’ve now been asked to do some drafting for a semi-retired architect (he still does all his drawings by hand!) so am encountering a few issues when needing to follow various protocols eg. differences in line weights, how to avoid having leader lines for dimensions in layout … If anyone has any guidance in those 2 areas, I’d be most grateful to hear it!

Maybe check out the courses here: SketchUp Campus

Hello,

I am Jan from Antwerp, Belgium and have been working in architecture for twenty years.
I’ve been using SketchUp daily since version 5, mainly for pre-visualization.
What I like most about SketchUp is that you always start with a simple model, but you can also create very complex models if you want. I prefer simplicity and smart use of components in the model. Aside from scripting, I consider myself fairly advanced in SketchUp.
