Using Trimble Connect to backup SketchUp and Layout

Currently I backup and sync my local SketchUp and Layout files to my Google Drive for the versioning feature.

I’m vaguely aware that Trimble Connect does versioning too – is that correct?

And if so will it provide versioning for Layout files?

How does saving to Trimble Connect work vis-à-vis files on my local drive?

Have I got it all wrong?

Yes. Each time you save the .skp file to Trimble Connect it’s an incremental save. Here this .skp file has 19 versions (saved to TC 19 times).

Yes it appears to do the same for LayOut files.

With SketchUp, save the file locally and then save it to TC. After that, during the session when you hit Save it should save to both locations. Being the belt and braces sort, I periodically do a Save as … to save locally, too.

For LayOut there isn’t a way to save files to TC from within LO but you can open the TC interface in your browser and Add them. It would be nice if they would make TC available within LO.

Thanks Dave – that’s very helpful!
