The file with the engine has 20MB, the complete car has 52MB file size and subdivided the file size growing to 255MB.
I work since last year on this model from time to time, often i do rework of some geometry after founding new reference pics. I guess i spend roundabout 800h work on that model.
My plan is to make a 3d printed model in 1/8 scale.
Your dedication and perseverance is to be applauded.
Hi Tengel,
A question: why don’t you print it yourself? I seems that you could buy a printer for the price of just the complete engine…
with all those details, overhangs,… it won’t be a cheapprinter I guess
Why not? As you can see Tengel is printing parts as they would be made by Porsche.
Detail is ok as long as you don’t print to small. By printing every part separatly you can use a scale that is ok for the details. And for the overhangs you’ve got supports…
Edit: ofcourse the biggest part will define the maximum scale…
I let the profis print
There are so fine details - that requires a resin printer… smell, handling…
Finally it is a test print, i plan to print all parts in resin in china for a small price.
great result, how big is the print?
Scale 1/8 - 80x80x40mm - printed by shapeways with laser sintered Nylon Polyamide 11.
I bet it is fantastic fun to hold in your hand an accurate model of your favorite subject, that you created!
Very nice, I agree this level of detail would be hard to achieve with a cheap printer!
After a long break due starting a new job i could find some time to continue my work on the 908/3.
Pedal-Area + Break-Fluid-Reservoir added.
2 Break-Cylinder used - one for each axle. Each cylinder use its own reservoir.
Electrical components added:
from left: Ignition coil, battery, control box, 2 ignition systems - each cylinder has 2 spark plugs.
Render of the current work progress - it comes slowly to the end of the road

Such a pleasure to see.
Detail work in progress.
revesed intake manifold
How the flat slider valve throttle control works:
A slider with drillings is moved by a (here not visible) mechanic, wire driven by the throttle pedal. The slider open or close the flow of the mixture of air and fuel.
Beautiful work, I’ve been searching for a 908/3 3D model to play with. Will you be offering this for sale when you’re done?
Starting point October 2019
2 Years work - i learned a lot about using sketchup.
collecting tons of reference pictures and now it comes to the finish line
