Template issue : (self created) mess

Hello,
Does someone knows how to remove the (personalized) listed templates in Window > Préférences > Templates ?

After creating several of them, and not been happy with some of the names I had given them, I modified their names directly in C:\Program Files\SketchUp\SketchUp 2015\resources\en-US\Templates

…to find later I created a mess upon re-opening Sketchup.

Not knowing yet the impact it would have, I did add to the chaos by also deleting a few (none of the original ones that ship with Sketchup of course).

Upon re-opening Sketchup I now have 2 issues:
1.- the ones I renamed in Windows explorer are not recognised - I stupidly thought they were scanned with each launch of Sketchup ;
2.- the ones I deleted (and to make matters worse I emptied the trash - so they are not recoverable), still appear in the Window > Préférences > Templates although they I am adamant they are gone. And for some reason, one the Welcome screen they are clickable/openable still, although I have no idea which one loads since they were deleted.

I searched in the obvious places to be able to reset to the original install, but could not manage to find a way to remove those templates from the menus.

Thank you for helping me in removing those from those menus, if you have a solution, or if you have information on how to “reset” them to a state where there are no more personalised ones.

(Note:
Looking into the registry in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SketchUp\SketchUp 2015 does not seem to pinpoint where those personalized templates are memorised, and I found nothing of interest in the usual folders : C:\ProgramData\SketchUp\SketchUp 2015 + C:\Users\Userx\AppData\Roaming\SketchUp\SketchUp 2015\SketchUp + C:\Program Files\SketchUp\SketchUp 2015)

Ok later found a solution.

Will post how I resolved this, if it helps someone in the future. I deleted all the personalized templates, Sketchup does indeed re-scan automatically at startup (my main problem there was that I use SU in both French & English and I had to reload / unload SkechUp several times in each version) all those templates found in C:\Program Files\SketchUp\SketchUp 2015\resources\en-US\Templates as well as C:\Program Files\SketchUp\SketchUp 2015\resources\fr\Templates.

As for renaming a template in this folder with Windows explorer, it does not work that way, and the name has to be correct from the time the perso template is created : File > Save as template dialogue box. (the option is given to save a template’s name and also the option of the file name).

That’s all there is to it. Sorry if this sounded a bit newby, still trying to find my marks with this great 3D software. Problem resolved ! :stuck_out_tongue:

What you want is actually a Feature Request - an option to edit a custom template and its meta data instead of recreating new templates and navigating to program directory to delete icky templates.

The developers do listen. Adding File > Save as Template was one of my feature requests several years ago. It used to take a few more clicks to get to the right menu. But adding a way to edit the file inside SU hasn’t worked its way high on the priority list.
