Snap to bounding box

I love that SketchUp now offers the ability to move something by its bounding box extents.

Please also allow me to use these same snap points to create a line / rectangle / literally anything else.

A work-around for that purpose can be found by using the Anchor Points extension at Sketchucation:

Anchor Points | SketchUcation.

It places construction points at the corners of the bounding box which you can snap to.

Another workaround for now would be to use ThomThom’s Draw Bounding Box from the EWH which can draw either regular geometry or guides.

Here’s a way to draw a bounding box without extensions, allowing you grab any corner with a drawing tool.
bounding box

  1. position a corner of the bounding box at the origin
  2. draw a short line from the origin along one axis
  3. select both the group and the line
  4. move the opposite corner of the box to the origin
  5. repeat steps (2)-(3) for the other 2 axes
  6. use the line endpoints to draw a bounding box

The short lines drawn in step (2) are grouped with the bounding box so they become markers for defining each dimension of the bounding box.

The example is from this thread.

Thank you! This is what I do now, and it just seemed silly to me that we can snap to the bounding box corners when we’re moving an object, but not when we’re drawing an object.
