Sketchup Pro 2025 request: Versatile Shortcuts for personal and intuitive Navigation

I am a beginner and had a hard time to figure out the navigation in Sketchup.
Being used to right click to drag and move around from other programs, I was a little confused.

For now I am not able to reprogram the right mouse button to my liking and intuition.

Therefore I would like to suggest some changes here and maybe people agree with me.

Sketchup doesnt differenciate between click-release and click-hold.
I would like to set click release to the drop down menu and click-hold for drag.

In addition to this I would like to have the ability to “quick cast” tools.
Quick cast in video games is a great time saver. The tool is applied instead of selected while holding the key. You safe time because you dont have to right click.

So in conclusion my dream would be in the system preferences Sketchup to have three boxes to select between
Clickt to Select-Tool like we have now
hold to select tool
or quickcast to apply tool

I really like sketchup and find it to be the most intuitive drawing tool out there.
Its versatility and addons are very cool. User interface and control is very a personal topic. So I get it if most people like it as is.

What do you guys think of this idea?

Best regards

Jo

To help achieve your goals, some time spent at the SketchUp Campus and at the SketchUp - YouTube channel will be very worthwhile. Both sites are from the SketchUp team. On the YouTube channel, pay attention to the Square One Series and Level UP series. They cover the basics for each tool.

Thank you. I am. It is great content.

Before you try and reinvent the way SU works please get proficient at the basics.

I don’t agree, the navigation on sketchup is very intuitive and it’s similar to most of the 3D programs on the market.

To be clear, there is a difference between these two when using SketchUp. As suggested, do a little more learning and you will see how that is implemented.

Thank you all for your replies. Being a few months in I still would like to change basic navigation functions and I agree its personal preference @francisquitof.
