SketchUp encountered an issue. Please try again later

I use SketchUp web on my desktop, which was last used two days ago. Now when I open it, I am able to log in, but then receive the error message ‘SketchUp encountered an issue. Please try again later.’

I have restarted my pc, updated my drivers, and turned off adblockers. Does anyone know of a fix? I haven’t yet tried to reinstall as im a bit cautious of losing my files.

Thanks

SketchUp Web runs in a web browser. By “reinstall” do you mean restart your browser? Doing that won’t affect your files.

SketchUp for Web is NOT SketchUp 2025 Desktop as you put in your forum profile.

If you are really running SketchUp Web, clear the caches for the web browser you are using. Or try a different browser.

Sorry for my confusion. I have SketchUp installed on my device, but it is only the free version so it is named ‘SketchUp for Web’. I’m not entirely confident in how this operates, as it does not open SketchUp in a web page but instead as an app.

I think you must be confusing things. Only the desktop version of SketchUp would be installed on your device and there is no free version of the desktop version unless you are using a cr acked version.

The desktop version is not named ‘SketchUp for Web’.

Show us a screen shot of what you are seeing.

Of course. Hope this helps narrow it down.

So you have a shortcut for the web-based app, not SketchUp desktop.

Try going to Trimble Identity in your browser. What happens then?

Oh okay that makes more sense.

It gives me the same error message or just opens the shortcut with the error message.

What web browser are you using? Try a different one.

Please correct your forum profile so we can avoid the confusion and time wasting in the future.

Both Chrome and Microsoft Edge show the same message and I have cleared the cache on both.

Updated now

Try clearing the caches again and then do a power off reboot of your computer.

Except you apparently missed saving the changes. It’s not 2025 SketchUp.

I have done as advised and cleared cache and rebooted and still same issue.

Anything else this could be cause by?

Where on the planet are you?

Are you using a VPN?

I’m in England, UK and Im not using a VPN.

Maybe @colin would have some insight.

Are you certain you’ve not got an ad blocker or anti-virus preventing your computer from connecting?

I do have an ad blocker and have for the past year plus while using SketchUp and this hasn’t been an issue. When I was troubleshooting I turned off my ad blocker to see if this would resolve the issue but it didn’t.

At some point the sign in page was changed, to have the Trimble sign in fields on the right. Because those come from another domain, that then triggered the issue. It’s quite likely that you used to be able to sign in without problems, before that design change was made.

There may be other security related settings that are preventing the items from another domain from appearing.

Do you have another browser, that you never use, that you could try signing in on, see if that works?

Hi thankyou for helping

I usually use Chrome to sign in through trimble but while troubleshooting I did try Microsoft Edge (that I never use) which had the same issue. I’m not entirely sure what the shortcut opens in as in the image above, when clicking the 3 dots I am given the option to ‘Open in Chrome’

I was using SketchUp two days ago which seemingly worked fine. Am I correct in assuming the Web version of SketchUp always runs the latest version? As I have always had to sign in on the right side as the application starts, unless you mean they changed it from the right side. Sorry if I don’t have a great understanding of how this works, I only occasionally use SketchUp for university projects.

I managed to figure out what was causing the error message. I didn’t have enough Disk Space on my device! Now I know for the future, and hopefully this might be helpful for someone else. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:
